There are essentially six parts to an auto insurance policy. An auto insurance policy may include all of the parts or some of them and each part is typically priced separately.

Bodily Injury Liability

This covers the insured for injuries caused to someone else.

Medical Payments
Covers the insured for the treatment of injuries to themselves and occupants of their vehicle.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Personal Injury Protection covers medical costs, income loss, loss of services and funeral expenses, regardless of the insured’s negligence. This coverage is automatically included in your policy at least equal to minimum limits required by Florida law.

Property Damage Liability
Covers damage caused by the insured to someone else's property.

Collision
Covers damage caused to the owners car from a collision caused by another car or other object.

Comprehensive
Covers damage caused to the owners car from risks such as fire, theft, falling objects, missiles, explosion, earthquake, flood, riot and civil commotion.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Covers the treatment of the policyholder's injuries as a result of collision with an uninsured driver.

Underinsured motorist coverage can also be included in an auto policy. Underinsured motorist coverage comes into play when an at-fault driver has auto liability insurance, but the limit of insurance is inadequate to pay for your damages. Each state requires that you have certain types of coverages with minimum liability limits. The insurance industry recommends that your bodily injury liability limits be $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence.
